FLAMENCO SIN FRONTERAS

“Flamenco Sin Fronteras “…Flamenco Without Borders consists of a diverse group of Flamenco dancers and musicians based in the unique and multicultural landscape of Singapore, who come from all walks of life, sharing a common passion for the elusive and beautiful art form of Flamenco and experimental theatre.

Under the guidance of Maestro Antonio Vargas, mentor, teacher and choreographer,” Flamenco Sin Fronteras”, hopes to share and promote Flamenco to the general public in Singapore and throughout Asia, by returning to its roots with its eclectic mix of Indian, Arabic and Jewish origins, while pushing artistic borders and exploring new frontiers by presenting Flamenco in novel and diverse ways, such as dance theatre adaption of famous poets, playwrights and novelists; fusion with other musical genres and dance forms; and exploring contemporary and cutting edge presentations with new theatre techniques and visual arts.

Flamenco Sin Fronteras hopes to share Flamenco as a way of life, not only for the gypsies in Andalusia, but also as a way of life for non-Spaniards who adopt this art form, as there are links and distant roots that can be found in the soils of Southeast Asia, as the familiar Oriental tunes with Arabic and Indian influence with its percussive nature, the strong tradition of the family and the universal expression of the human condition, strike a familiar chord that connects us to our own distant past.

Members of the company has performed widely in Sinagpore for various public and private events since 2004, from traditional renditions to avant garde presentations. Recent highlights include Dover Park Hospice Charity Gala in presence of President Nathan, "Friends of Encore" gala dinner, and Europe Day celebrations.

In 2009 Flamenco Sin Fronteras produced its first original experimental dance theatre production Cinco Sueños on 7th/8th November at the Arts House Playden with good reviews, click here to view selected picture excerpts and synopsis of Cinco Sueños.
